Stroop Test
Measure cognitive interference and selective attention with the classic Stroop color-word task.
Estimated duration: 3–5 minutes
About This Experiment
The Stroop Test is one of the most widely used cognitive assessments in psychology and neuroscience. It measures your ability to inhibit automatic responses by presenting color words printed in incongruent ink colors. For example, the word 'RED' may appear in blue ink, and you must name the ink color rather than read the word. This conflict between reading and color naming reveals how your brain handles competing information.
How It Works
- You are presented with color words displayed in different ink colors.
- Your task is to identify the ink color, not the word itself.
- Trials alternate between congruent (word matches color) and incongruent (word differs from color) conditions.
- Response times and accuracy are recorded for each trial.
Key Metrics
Stroop Effect
The difference in response time between incongruent and congruent trials
Accuracy
Percentage of correct responses across all trial types
Reaction Time
Average time to respond to each stimulus
Interference Score
A normalized measure of cognitive interference
